A complete 2D puzzle-adventure game about torches that alter the world's collision data around them.

GOAL

  • To fully explore this unique puzzle mechanic

TORCHES

  • Outside the radius of a torch, normal collision applies. However, inside it, color determines the solidity of objects (you can walk from black to black, but not white to black)

  • Many variants of torch exist such as ones powered by electricity, ones that toggle other torches, or ones that affect a single line of tiles in a given direction

  • Each torch is introduced in its own area and the finale brings them all together to create some truly mind-bending puzzles

LEVEL DESIGN

  • Areas in Blhite consist of a series of interconnected rooms

  • The first considerations when making a new area is the unique torch variant that it will be built around and the aesthetic it will have

  • Then the individual puzzle rooms are created and playtested

  • Finally, the entire area is tested and re-balanced to ensure the game remains challenging but not frustrating
