PURGATORY FLIP
Technical Designer:
Designed and tested game rules
Implemented 3D models, animations, scripts, and audio
Created procedural animations for piece movement, ability activation, and board state changes
Created a variety of visual effects to enhance aesthetic
A steampunk virtual board game developed in a week for the 2021 College Game Jam. The theme of the jam was "connection".
To create a turn-based tactical RPG with two connected battlefields
To prune scope such that we could complete the project during the length of the jam
GAME RULES
In the process of pruning scope, we cut unit stats which resulted in something closer to chess than a tactical RPG
One of my primary roles on the team was to design and test the game's rules
To develop the rules, I started with a paper prototype that went through several iterations prior to being brought into Unity
In order to emphasize the connection between the two battlefields, 2 of the 3 game pieces have special abilities that affect both sides of the board
AESTHETIC
We doubled-down on the board game aesthetic along with a bit of steampunk to create something that looks like a game the crew of an airship might play
I created several visual effects to strengthen this aesthetic such as smoke rising from the board, dust particles, and a flickering light
